As the anti-corporate globalization movement has gained
momentum over the last year, many active groups realized that
educating
themselves and others about the global economy is an important
task
that must be an ongoing process.
The Economic Literacy Action Network (ELAN), a
national
network of groups that work on popular economics education, has
just published a new resource for those organizing around and
learning
about globalization. The book is called "Unpacking
Globalization:
A Popular Education Tool Kit," and it includes seven different
curricula that were developed by ELAN members. These include:
Are My Clothes Clean?: Women and the Global
Assembly
Line by the Women of Color Resource Center
A Global Economy Workshop and a Globalization
Glossary
by the Tennessee Industrial Renewal Network and Highlander
Research
and Education Center
The Korean Tiger: Analyzing the Asian Financial Crisis
by Center for Ethics and Economic Policy and JustAct
Privatization by the Praxis Project of the American
Friends Service Committee
Sweating it Out with the WTO: a Trainers Guide by
United for a Fair Economy
Welfare in the Global Economy by Project South
Women‚s Labor and Economic Globalization by

Women in Development - New York
The tool kit is the result of a collaborative meeting
between ELAN and the 50 Years Is Enough Network. During this
meeting,
curricula was developed and then put into practice by the various
groups over the next year and half and refined before publication.
The curricula covers a broad range of topics relating to globalizaton
and will be enormously helpful to groups who want to begin to
deepen
their understanding of the forces that are shaping our world today.
In addition, the book includes a thoughtful essay about the
principles
of popular education.
