Solidarity's New York Branch and New York CISPES host a talk by Victor Geronimo, an activist from the Dominican Republic working with the Convergence of Movements of the Peoples of the Americas (COMPA), an anti-neoliberal
coordination against the IMF. As a member of this group, he directed several protests and general strikes from 1997-2001. Victor is a member of the
National Directory of the Unity and Struggle Coordination, which recently directed the two most powerful general strikes of the last two decades of
the history of Dominican Republic against the IMF, the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), indebtedness to Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and other international banks.

He will discuss the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the links between economic and military violence as exemplified by the recent
appointment of Paul Wolfowitz, a key architect of the invasion and occupation of Iraq, to the presidency of the World Bank. He will talk about the current model
of globalization and what that means for people in their community and what they're doing to resist that model.

Contact:
Sponsors: 50 Years is Enough and United for Peace and Justice, the tour is being hosted in Chicago by activists in antiwar and progressive organizations.

NOMPUMELELO “PINKIE” MAGWAZA, a South African youth organizer and poet, will visit Chicago October 1 as part of a U.S. tour of Third World activists aimed at highlighting how the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) are responsible for economic austerity and crippling in poor countries around the world.

The tour follows the annual meetings of the World Bank/IMF in Washington, D.C., where protesters challenged the international financial institutions the same weekend as the massive anti-war demonstration.

Protesters highlighted the connections between the military violence in Iraq—and elsewhere—and the economic violence perpetrated by the IMF and the World Bank, a connection made even clearer with the appointment of Paul Wolfowitz, a key architect of the Iraq war, to the presidency of the World Bank.

An activist with Jubilee South Africa, Pinkie will highlight the lethal impact of debt on her country—including the AIDS crisis—and discuss the devastating results of the pro-U.S., free-market policies pursued by the South African government.
