Diversity Statement
50 Years Is Enough builds partnerships to overcome global
economic injustice. We work toward people's greater control
over the resources, structures, and economic policies and processes
that affect their lives.
The 50 Years Is Enough Network is committed to building equitable
relationships and partnerships among different peoples as the
key to long-term social change. Basic to this vision is our
commitment to developing a Network which reflects, values and
respects diversity and which challenges injustice and sexism,
racism, classism and all the other "isms" that work
to divide us.
Because we believe that diversity is a strength, the 50 Years
Is Enough Network is committed to maintaining an inclusive,
multicultural Network that, through hiring procedures, targeted
recruitment of members, and strategic links with other Networks
and organizations, reflects diversity and encourages gender
balance within our board, staff, volunteers and members. The
50 Years community, made up of women's, labor, solidarity, public
policy, grassroots, faith-based, development and youth groups,
is diverse in many ways, including: race, ethnicity, culture,
nationality, spirituality, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic
class, and age. We actively challenge racist and sexist stereotypes
within the U.S., as well as those targeted at our Southern partners
and colleagues, promoting the right of economic self-determination
for all peoples and nations.
Nurturing a truly diverse organization is an evolving process
which enlivens our work and requires a long-term commitment
of organizational resources and leadership from the steering
committee, staff and members. Diversity best flourishes in a
learning environment which fosters trust, embraces challenges
and encourages people to question their assumptions and uphold
their principles. We promote a work and activism environment
of inclusiveness where all participants value and celebrate
each other's different contributions, skills and experience
and where all people enjoy the opportunity to thrive and fulfill
their potential.
